Norge oil checking made easy
Thanks to John W, who gave the idea of using special long pliers to check the oil, so avoiding the need to remove the fairings, I'm now able to check the oil level in one minute! I couldn't find the long enough pliers from local hardware stores, so I ended up fabricating a special socket - it works well and is so obvious solution that I think that it should have been part of the original Norge tool set.
As John W indicated, you need to make room for the oil stick when lifting it away between the cylinder and fairing - I filed just a little bit of the inner plastic part - it's hardly visible modification:

The "tool" itself is just a small 1/4" opened 13 mm socket, where the opening has a tight fit to the handle in the oil stick:

Then you just use it:

Why oh why don't Moto Guzzi have a stand at the british motorcycle show. They're beautiful bikes but the company haven't been to the U.K. for years. Strange, because Victory have a stand yet they only sell about ten bikes per year in the U.K.
Hope Moto Guzzi read this and ammend their ways next year.

I'm thinking that a pair of those swallowed-hook fisherman's pliers might also work here.
Cheers!

to be truthful I haven't been able to ride the Norge because it is colder then all hell here in New Hampshire.I was able to put 77 miles on mine before the weather turned to the frigid side, so not enough miles to see if there is any oil consumption. The dealer said they don't burn oil, that's why you don't need to check it. He has since bought one of my tools. This not only makes it easy to check the oil, but easy to change it without having to take anything apart. My understanding is the 2008 Norges will have dipstick access.

After reading about your oil checking tool I decided to fabricate one for my Norge. To tell the truth I think the factory forgot about checking the oil let alone changing it till later after it was all surrounded by fairings. The unfortunate part is having to remove the right side, the bottom and then the left side to get access to the dip stick. The tool I made is a bit different in design as I wanted to design one that actually holds on to the dip stick for removal. After 2 attempts I finally came up with a good working tool. Now I don't have to take half the bike apart to check the oil. Now I need to find a long neck funnel for oil changes. Thanks for the great idea.

For your information, I have read in a Norge test in the Dutch magazine Moto73 that all new 2007 Norge's will have an special oil-check-opening in the fairing for easy oilcheck/filling.

Just wondering, with the easy method of oil checking, have you noticed any oil consumption?
I'm looking forward to seeing a Norge at the New York City International Motorcycle Show on January 20th. I'm an old time BMW rider who just isn't thrilled with current offerings and looking at sport-touring offerings. Thank you.
