Another great day - 7 hours, 400 km

Grasse - Castellane - Digne-les-Bains - Lac de Serre Ponçon - Barcelonette - Col d'Allos - St-Andre-les-Alpes - Entrevaux - Villars-sur-Var - Nice - Cagnes-sur-Mer - Grasse. A route a man has to encounter.

At the time I started the Breva, the sun was literally burning in the sky - just like it does when the "canicule" hits the Southern France. It was a perfect day to ride through the parts of "Alpes de Haute Provence", without the risk of the usual pouring afternoon rainstorms in the mountains...

The highest road in the Europe

Cold, windy and deserted Col de la Bonnette, more than 2800 meters above sea level is a stunningly beautiful place and as the sign advertises: you can't get any higher in the Europe using public roads.

La Bonette is located in the protected core area of the Mercantour national park, only couple of hours ride from the crowded and hot Côte d'Azur. I rode there few days ago when the weather on the coast was - and still is - almost untolerably hot for riding. The temperature dropped some 20°C while riding up there. One of my most memorable rides ever. If you are visiting the Côte d'Azur during the summer... don't miss this place!
